Bachelor of Christian Education

The Bachelor of Christian Education degree requires the successful completion of 120 credit hours. The curriculum has been designed to equip men and women to teach in Christian elementary and middle schools or lead a Christian Education program in a local church setting. Note: This program has not been designed for those who wish to teach in public education. Of the 120 credit hours, 39 credits fulfill the college’s general education requirements for a Bachelor of Christian Education degree. These include: 

I. Thirty nine (39) credits are required from the following areas of study to fulfill the college’s general education requirements for an Bachelor's degree. These include:
  • 6 credit hours in English (Composition and College Writing)
  • 9 credit hours in Science and college Math (minimum of three credits in each)
  • 3 credit hours in Critical Thinking
  • 3 credit hours in Psychology
  • 3 credit hours in Sociology
  • 6 credit hours in American History
  • 3 credit hours in American Government
  • 6 credit hours in Communication (three in Public Speaking    
II. Eighteen (18) credit hours of religious studies are also required:
  • 3 credit hours in Principles of Biblical Interpretation      2. 3 credit hours in Old Testament Survey
  • 3 credit hours in New Testament Survey
  • 3 credit hours in Core Christian Beliefs
  • 3 credit hours in Church History
  • 3 credit hours in Ethics
     
​III. This degree also requires that student earn 3 credits in each of the following subject areas (48 credit hours):
  • Introduction to Teaching
  • Human Growth and Development
  • Foundations of Education
  • Educational Psychology
  • Educational Testing and Measurement
  • Planning Effective Instruction
  • Educational Technology
  • Teaching Reading
  • Literacy
  • Teaching Mathematics
  • Teaching Social Studies
  • Teaching Science
  • Elementary School Art
  • Elementary School Music
  • Managing Classroom Behavior
  • Educating Exceptional Children
IV: Experiential education (6 credits), a capstone project (6 credits), and 3 additional credit hours of electives are also required.
