Bachelor of Christian Service

​The Bachelor of Christian Studies degree requires the successful completion of 120 credit hours. The curriculum has been designed to equip men and women to become servant-leaders capable of offering Christian leadership to the faith community and the world. The degree requires the successful completion of 120 credit hors which include:

I. Thirty nine (39) credits are required from the following areas of study to fulfill the college’s general education requirements for an Bachelor's degree. These include: (click on course for description)
  • 6 credit hours in English (Composition and College Writing)
  • 9 credit hours in Science and Math (minimum of three credits each)
  • 3 credits in Critical Thinking
  • 3 credit hours in Psychology
  • 3 credit hours in Sociology 
  • 6 credit hours in American History 
  • 3 credit hours in American Government
  • 6 credit hours in Communication (three in Public Speaking)

II. Eighteen (18) credit hours of religious studies are required:
  • 3 credits in Biblical Interpretation
  • 3 credit hours in Old Testament Survey
  • 3 credit hours in New Testament Survey
  • 3 credit hours in Core Christian Beliefs
  • 3 credit hours in Church History
  • 3 Credit Hours in Ethics

III. Concentration:
This degree also requires that students complete 33 credit hours in one of the following concentrations. Please note that there are required courses in each concentration, some of which have prerequisites.

IV. Electives:
In addition to the above requirements, students are required to complete 27 additional credit hours which may be transferred or selected from the college curriculum offerings. 

Concentrations

Accounting:  The Accounting concentration has been designed for persons who wish to educationally prepare themselves to assist churches or non-profit organizations with their needs for proper financial record keeping, management, and planning. The Department offers the following courses: Principles of Accounting I, Principles of Accounting II, Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, Intermediate Accounting III, Financial Accounting for Non-Profits, Managerial and Cost Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Business and Professional Ethics, Business Taxation, Auditing, Advanced Accounting.

     Business:  The Business concentration has been designed for persons who wish to educationally prepare themselves to assist churches or non-profit organizations with their needs for proper management, general administration, and planning. The Department offers the following courses: Introduction to Business, Business Communication, Economics, Business Law I, Business Law II, Management, Managing Non Profit Organizations, Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior, Marketing, Internet Marketing, Business Information Systems, Human Resource Management, Business Ethics.

     Criminal Justice:  The Criminal Justice curriculum has been designed for persons who wish to educationally prepare themselves for work in police or prison chaplaincy, or in other areas of ministry or service in criminal justice. The Department offers the following courses: Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Law Enforcement, Community Policing, Ethics in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Forensics in Criminal Justice, Evidence, Criminal Investigations, Terrorism and Homeland Security, Organizational Behavior, Constitutional Law in Criminal Justice, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Criminology, Juvenile Justice.

     Education:  The Education concentration has been designed for persons who wish to educationally prepare themselves to teach in Christian elementary and middle schools or to lead an educational program in a church setting.  The Department offers the following courses: Introduction to Teaching, Child and Adolescent Development, Foundations of Education, Principles of Leadership, Educational Psychology, Planning Effective Instruction, Classroom Diversity, Educational Technology, Teaching Reading, Behavior in Organizations, Literacy, Teaching Mathematics, Teaching Social Studies, Teaching Science, Elementary School Art, Elementary School Music

      Legal Studies:  The Legal Studies concentration has been designed for persons who wish to educationally prepare themselves to work with attorneys or ministries that serve the poor, those in need, or the disenfranchised. The Department offers the following courses: Introduction to American Law, Introduction to Paralegal Studies, Legal Procedure for Paralegals, Legal Research & Writing, Legal System Ethics, Business Law I, Business Law II, Civil Litigation, Tort Law, Intellectual Property Law, Marriage and Family Law, Wills, Trusts, and Estates, Real Estate Law, Criminal Law and Procedure.

     Religious Studies:  The Religious Studies concentration has been designed for those who wish to develop a broader understanding of the Christian faith. The department, in cooperation with Pilgrim Seminary, offers the following courses: Principles of Biblical Interpretation; Old Testament Survey; New Testament Survey, The Gospels and Acts; Pauline and General Epistles; Core Christian Beliefs; Christian Theology I; Christian Theology II; Christian Ethics; Church History I, Church History II; Mission of the Church; Evangelism and Discipleship; Preaching and Worship; and Church Health and Growth.

     Psychology:  The Psychology concentration has been designed for persons who wish to educationally prepare themselves to work with Christian counseling or helping organizations The Department offers the following courses: General Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Health Psychology, Group Dynamics, Human Sexuality, Social Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Drugs and Society, Encountering Death and Dying, Abnormal Psychology, Introduction to Counseling, Crisis Counseling, Helping Professions Ethics.

    Social Work:  The Social Work concentration has been designed for those who wish to engage in social ministry through the local church or non-profit organization. The Department offers the following courses: Sociology; Introduction to Social Work; Human Development and Social Environment; Social Problems; Marriage and Family; Social Work Skills; Social Policy; Social Work Practice; Social Advocacy; Case Management; Social Work with Organizations; Social Work with Groups; Research Methods for Social Work; Crisis Intervention; and Helping Profession Ethics. 

    Interdisciplinary Studies: The specialized studies option is available for students whose goals for ministry and service are best met from a selection of courses from across the curriculum. A specific program of instruction must be developed with the student's academic advisor and approved by the Dean.
