Welcome to the School of Education!  Myrtle Beach College seeks to equip men and women with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively teach in Christian elementary and middle schools or to lead a educational program in a
local church setting. Students who graduate with a major in education will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the teaching profession.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of childhood and adolescent development.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the philosophical foundations of American public education.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of leadership.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the ways in which psychology relates to and helps inform teaching and learning.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the content and methods that are critical to effective instruction.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of the process of teaching students in a multicultural classroom.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of educational technology and the skills necessary to integrate technology into an educational environment.
  9. Demonstrate an understanding of major concepts in organizational behavior.
  10. Demonstrate an understanding of the the content and mechanics of teaching reading.
  11. Demonstrate an understanding of foundational concepts in teaching literacy.
  12. Demonstrate an understanding of mathematical concepts and methods of instruction and assessment in elementary and middle school programs.
  13. Demonstrate an understanding of macro-concepts and methods for teaching social studies.
  14. Demonstrate an understanding of foundational concepts and methods for teaching elementary science.
  15. Demonstrate an understanding of the process for implementing a developmentally appropriate art program and how art can be infused into the classroom.
  16. Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary theories and practices of elementary and middle school music education.
  17. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of leadership.
  18. Demonstrate an understanding of the factors that influence student classroom behavior and strategies to address disruptive behavior.
  19. Demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics, capabilities, and expectations of students with special needs.
  20. Demonstrate an understanding of educational research, testing and measurement.
